Weatherbys’ charity fundraising tops £100,000 in 2024

We have always believed in giving back to our community and supporting our team in doing the same. This commitment to social awareness is a big part of who we are, and it shines through in everything we do from our colleagues and clients to our professional connections and suppliers.

Our contribution through this commitment continues to improve lives and build communities – and 2024 was no different. Many of our colleagues ran half marathons, scrambled through miles of mud, baked cakes, jumped out of planes, bungeed off a bridge, grew ‘Movember’ moustaches and rolled up their sleeves up to give back to communities and charities.

Our contribution through this commitment continues to improve lives and build communities – and 2024 was no different. Many of our colleagues ran half marathons, scrambled through miles of mud, baked cakes, jumped out of planes, bungeed off bridges, grew ‘Movember’ moustaches and rolled their sleeves up to give back to communities and charities.

Our colleagues have supported several charities this year, including our four dedicated charity partners Alzheimer’s Research UK, The Daylight Centre, City Harvest and Rock Trust. They also raised money for many other charities including, DEBRA, Sensational Kids, British Heart Foundation, Macmillan Cancer, Breast Cancer Awareness and Young Minds Matter. It’s not just about raising money; through Local Village Network, we’ve had the opportunity to support and mentor young people in London who face significant challenges.

In addition, the Racing Bank has supported three key industry charities from the world of horse racing (Injured Jockeys Fund, Racing Welfare and Retraining of Racehorses) through our Racehorse Sponsorship Scheme.

Established in 2007, the Weatherbys Creating the Future Foundation supports match funding and our colleagues’ fundraising efforts. This year, we’ve donated over £100,000.

To help bring our fundraising to life, we thought we’d share some of the initiatives we undertook this year to support our four charity partners.

Alzheimer’s Research UK

a 13-strong team from Arkle conquered its namesake mountain to raise £12,500 for Alzheimer’s Research UK – including a donation of £3,500 from the Weatherbys Creating The Future Foundation.  Overcoming steep rugged slopes of glistening white Cambrian quartzite and unpredictable weather conditions, our team demonstrated unwavering determination throughout their 2,528ft ascent. 2024 also saw a brave contingent of Weatherbys daredevils take to the skies, raising a huge £14,000, while a team of 16 hardy souls ran 10km through mud and over obstacles in Warwickshire’s infamous Wolf Run.

City Harvest

Teams from our Wellingborough and London offices donned high-viz vests to support City Harvest, a London-based charity that collects surplus food and distributes it to over 375 partner organizations, including food banks, schools, hostels, and community centres. Our volunteers helped pack fruit and vegetables into food boxes and delivered parcels to the local community. Thanks to their efforts, we contributed to delivering 70,000 meals to some of the city’s most vulnerable people. Since 2014, City Harvest has delivered more than 50 million meals.

The Daylight Centre

Some of our Wellingborough colleagues this year swapped their smartphones for shovels to support weeding, digging, raking and seeding to help our local charity partner, The Daylight Centre. Based in our hometown, the centre operates a community hub offering a range of services to those in need including access to hot showers, clothing, bedding, laundry facilities and food for anyone who is street homeless or lacking in facilities. Another team of volunteers from our offices have also supported the centre in packing and delivering food parcels to those in need. We’ve also encouraged employees to donate items to the food bank through multiple collection drives.

Rock Trust

Several of our thrill-seeking colleagues north of the border decided to bungee jump off a 40m high swing bridge in Perthshire to raise funds for Rock Trust, Scotland’s main youth homelessness charity for more than 30 years. Another team chose to run the 5km route that winds around the iconic Kelpies, two stunning 30-metre-high sculptures that embody mythical creatures to support the charity’s work.
