Meet Ellen Jeffery, our new private banker with a passion for helping entrepreneurs

Ellen Jeffery joins Weatherbys as a Private Banker, previously having spent six years at Barclays Private Bank advising ultra-high net worth individuals and their families. We sat down with Ellen to discuss banking, entrepreneurs, and the next generation of Weatherbys clients.

Having studied History and then on to study a Master’s in International Relations, Ellen had set her sights on becoming a diplomat. However, with a father working in the investment industry and a yearning to work in the city, the unconscious bias led her to a career in banking – initially on the Wealth Management Graduate Scheme at C. Hoare & Co. Following a stint at Rathbones, Ellen moved to Barclays Private Bank, predominantly looking after large Family Offices, which gave her an in-depth understanding of the psychology behind Ultra High Net Worth clients and their attitudes to wealth transfer.

“I have always taken pride in the close and trusted relationships I have built with clients – providing a bespoke and personal level of service is one I value so much as a private banker,” says Ellen. “Getting to know them and understanding what they need from a private bank.”

It is the value she places on building trusted relationships with clients that led her to Weatherbys. Three months on, and having settled into its Mayfair office, Ellen, she has an eye on helping the Bank attract a younger generation of clients.

“As a private banker I will help our clients with their day-to-day banking, through to lending and investment management,” says Ellen. “I am so passionate about the entrepreneur space. We’ve got some inspiring founders and CEOs in their thirties and forties in the UK running high-growth businesses,” says Ellen. “The one-to-one relationship piece is so important. Smaller private banks can offer entrepreneurs everything they need and more. They have the capacity, the knowledge, and the resources to nurture close trusted relationships; and to be with founders at every step of their journey.”

A keen outdoor swimmer and sailor, Ellen commutes from her Leigh-on-Sea home to the office. “It is important to be in the office – building relationships and collaborating with colleagues, sharing ideas and best practice by having those in-person conversations. The culture at Weatherbys is very collegiate, which enables us to provide our clients with a best-in-class service.”
